Timo Tuppurainen (b. 1973) studied in 1992-1995 in the Helsinki Pop Jazz Conservatory and later in the Sibelius-Academy Jazz music department, where he gained his Master of Music degree in 2004. As a freelance musician he has played in numerous bands including Lenni-Kalle Taipale Trio, U-Street All Stars, Ad Lib Quintet, Pipoka, Pekka Kuusisto & Luomu Players, NoneAlike, Erja Lyytinen, Hemma Beast, Janne Maarala Sextet, Avanti! and UMO. He has also participated in many international jazz projects and concerts led by Jim Beard, Palle Mikkelborg, Anders Bergrantz, Ben Monder, Jon Balke, Mike Nock and Bill Kirchner. As a member of the U-Street All Stars he has received prizes in the international jazz competitions (Getxo, Jazz Hoeillaart) and the band was elected as the Artist of Year by the Pori Jazz festival 2002. He has performed in the USA (Rochester Jazz Festival), Germany (Jazzbaltica), Denmark (Copenhagen Jazz Festival), Sweden, Iceland, Lithuania, Norway, India, Poland, Spain and Belgium.
